📋 The Saddleback Clownfish has a genuinely distinctive dark brown-to-black body, marked by a bold white stripe behind the eye and a wide, slanted white bar across the middle of the back, resembling a saddle. There's genuinely considerable variation in the size and extension of this white bar between individuals.
Native to the Western Pacific, this species inhabits silty lagoons, harbours, and sandy slopes to depths of 30 metres.
This species is genuinely closely associated with the Sebae Anemone and Haddon's Carpet Anemone in the wild, and we want to share a genuinely fascinating fact: in the aquarium, this species can actually shift lighter or darker in colouration depending on which host anemone species it settles into. We want to be honest that a host anemone is not strictly required, since most reef setups provide plenty of alternative hiding places, and some individuals will take up residence in a suitable coral substitute instead. This is genuinely one of the larger clownfish species, and while less overtly aggressive than the Maroon Clownfish, it remains territorial, particularly in smaller tanks, and does best in small groups or a mated pair. It's fully reef safe, and genuinely one of the more sought-after clownfish species now that captive-bred stock is widely available.
