    Care tips:

    • Lids: eels are escape artists, so fit a heavy, gap-free lid and secure all rockwork firmly

    • Feeding: use tongs and never feed by hand, and offer meaty foods every 2-4 days (garden eels are the exception and feed on plankton through the day)

    • Tankmates: most eels eat any fish or crustacean small enough to swallow, so choose tankmates comfortably too large to be eaten

    • Space: sizes range from the compact Jeweled Moray (up to 61cm) to the giant Yellow Edged Moray (up to 240cm), so choose the tank for the adult

    • Substrate: ribbon, snake, and garden eels burrow, so give them a deep bed of fine sand
