🐌 Giant Colombian Ramshorn Snail Marisa cornuarietis

Algae & Detritus Control • Heavy Bioload Cleaner • Large Decorative Snail

📋 The Giant Colombian Ramshorn Snail is a spectacular freshwater snail, known for its large size (up to 7.5 cm) and bold, coiled shell that resembles a giant ram’s horn. Unlike the small pest ramshorn snails, this species is a decorative showpiece in aquariums.

It is valued for its algae and detritus control, but it also has a reputation for nibbling on soft-leaved plants. Aquarists often keep them in tanks with sturdy or artificial plants, where they act as a heavy bioload cleaner.

Highly hardy and peaceful, they are compatible with most fish and shrimp. However, as an egg-laying species, they can reproduce quickly under favorable conditions, so populations should be managed if breeding is not desired.

💡 Highlights

Large decorative snail – grows 5 – 7.5 cm (2 – 3")
Effective algae & detritus cleaner – grazes glass and substrate
📏 High bioload – produces lots of waste, needs good filtration
Hardy & peaceful – adaptable to many aquariums
🐠 Prolific breeder – lays eggs above the waterline
