📋 Species Description – Queen Angelfish

The Queen Angelfish (Holacanthus ciliaris) is a vibrant Caribbean showpiece, instantly recognized by its brilliant yellow-and-blue coloration, bright turquoise edging, and the distinctive blue “crown” or halo marking on its forehead — a symbol of its royal status among reef fish.

Juveniles feature deep blue bodies with bright vertical bars, which gradually fade as they mature into adults displaying a radiant blend of blue, gold, and electric yellow. Known for both beauty and intelligence, this angelfish often becomes the centerpiece of large marine displays.

The Queen Angelfish thrives in spacious, rock-rich aquariums with excellent filtration and high-quality water conditions. Though not reef safe, it coexists well with other large, non-aggressive tankmates. Its regal coloration, bold presence, and graceful swimming style make it one of the most admired marine angelfish species in the hobby.
