🐟 Sailfin Pleco (Pterygoplichthys gibbiceps, L083)
Algae Grazer • Large Display Pleco • Hardy Community Catfish

📋 The Sailfin Pleco (Pterygoplichthys gibbiceps) is one of the most recognizable plecos thanks to its large sail-like dorsal fin and striking leopard-like spots across the body and fins. A hardy, long-lived species, it is highly adaptable but requires a very large aquarium or pond due to its adult size of up to 50 cm.

Young Sailfin Plecos are excellent algae eaters, helping to keep aquariums clean. However, as they grow, they need supplemental feeding with sinking pellets, vegetables, and occasional protein. Their peaceful nature makes them suitable for large community aquariums, though they can become territorial with other large plecos.

This species is best suited for experienced aquarists with the space to house them long-term. Their impressive size, unique markings, and iconic dorsal fin make them a stunning centerpiece in large aquaria.
