Care tips:

  • Size: from the 40cm Bluestripe to the 116cm Red Emperor, so plan the tank for the adult

  • Groups: Bluestripe Snappers are happiest in a small school of three or more, while adult Red Emperors are best kept alone

  • Feeding: both take frozen meaty foods readily

  • Reef safety: both eat small fish and invertebrates, so choose tankmates comfortably too large to be eaten

  • Release: never release a Bluestripe Snapper into open water, since it's invasive in Hawaii
