📋 The Bluestripe Snapper, also known as the Blueline Snapper, Blue-Lined Snapper, or Bluestripe Sea Perch, has a bright yellow body marked with four to five vivid, crisp electric-blue stripes running from head to tail, a pale white-to-pink underside, and mostly yellow fins. It's instantly recognisable and one of the most eye-catching snappers you can keep.
It ranges across an enormous area of the Indo-Pacific, from the Red Sea and East Africa through the Indian Ocean to Hawaii and the central Pacific, living on coral reefs, lagoons, and reef slopes. It's a hardy, adaptable fish that settles in quickly and takes frozen and prepared foods readily, which makes it a great first snapper for anyone new to larger predatory fish. Juveniles school together, so a small group of three or more makes the most impressive display, though adults can become more solitary and semi-aggressive with age. It grows to up to 40cm, so plan on at least 680L with plenty of open swimming space. It's reef safe with caution: it will eat any fish or invertebrate small enough to fit in its mouth. It was introduced to Hawaii in the 1950s and is now one of its most abundant reef fish, so please never release one into open water.
