📋 The Sunset Platy (Xiphophorus maculatus/variatus) is a vibrant, selectively bred freshwater livebearer prized for its warm orange-to-yellow body colouration, often blending into a fiery gradient reminiscent of its namesake evening sky, paired with an easygoing nature and effortless care requirements.
A selectively bred colour variety developed from wild Southern Platy and Variable Platy stock native to Mexico and Central America, Sunset Platies display a smooth colour transition from a golden-yellow head through to deep orange or red toward the tail, occasionally accented with darker fin edging depending on the individual strain.
Naturally peaceful and social, Sunset Platies do well in small mixed-sex groups and adapt readily to a wide range of water conditions, making them one of the most forgiving livebearers for new aquarists. As livebearers, they also display fascinating natural breeding behaviour, giving birth to free-swimming fry rather than laying eggs.
With stable water conditions and peaceful tank mates, they thrive as a Vivid Sunset-Coloured Community Display Fish.
