The Sunburst Orange GloFish Tetra (Gymnocorymbus ternetzi) (fluorescent variant) is a genetically modified colour variety of the classic Black Skirt Tetra (Gymnocorymbus ternetzi), expressing a permanent, stable vivid orange colouration through an inherited fluorescent protein gene rather than any dye or paint.
Unlike artificially "dyed" or "painted" tetras — a harmful and widely condemned practice involving injected dye that stresses fish and shortens their lifespan — GloFish colouration is genetic, present from birth, stable for life, and does not harm the fish in any way. Care, water parameters, and behaviour are identical to the standard Black Skirt Tetra.
Naturally hardy and easy to keep, this fish schools well in a group and is one of the most beginner-friendly tetras available, though it does carry a known fin-nipping tendency in smaller groups.
