📋 The Cardinal Tetra is among the most iconic freshwater aquarium fish, admired for its brilliant neon-blue stripe and vivid red body extending from head to tail. A close relative of the Neon Tetra, it's larger and more intensely coloured, creating a dazzling effect when kept in a group.
It comes from the blackwater tributaries of the upper Orinoco and Negro River basins in South America, naturally thriving in soft, acidic water beneath dense forest canopy. Every Cardinal Tetra we ship is feeding well.
This species shows its best colour in soft, clean, stable water with subdued lighting and dark substrate. It's a perfect fit for a peaceful community aquarium, best kept in a shoal of 10 or more, creating a mesmerizing schooling display that brings colour and movement to any planted aquascape. It reaches up to 4cm, so a 60L tank suits a school well.
