Jawfish
For Marine Aquariums

Jawfish are characterful burrow-dwellers, spending their day hovering just above a sand den they dig and maintain themselves. At #Fisheee Aquarium Store Phuket Thailand, every listing gives clear guidance on burrow needs, lid security, and reef compatibility, so you can choose the jawfish that suits your aquarium.

Our Jawfish Collection

For a personable, classic choice, the Yellow Head Jawfish is famous for "spy hopping" above its burrow and documented mouthbrooding. For something unusual, the Blue Spotted Jawfish is a real cool-water species needing lower temperatures than typical tropical fish, often with a dedicated chiller. For a true rarity, the Chinstrap Jawfish remains scientifically undescribed, while the Blackcap Jawfish is uncommon in the trade and appeals to dedicated collectors. #FishShopPhuketThailand

Care tips:

  • Burrow requirements: all jawfish need a deep sand bed (at least 4-6 inches for larger species) and secured rockwork placed on the glass, not directly on sand

  • Lid security: every jawfish is a capable jumper or escape artist; a fully secure, gap-free lid is essential

  • Temperature: the Blue Spotted Jawfish needs cooler water (18-22°C) than typical tropical fish, often requiring a dedicated chiller

  • Mouthbrooding: the Blackcap, Chinstrap, and Yellow Head Jawfish are documented male mouthbrooders, incubating eggs until they hatch

  • Reef safety: most jawfish pose at least some risk to small ornamental shrimp or hermit crabs, though none will harm corals directly
