📋 The Blackcap Jawfish , also known as the Gold Specks Jawfish or Tiger Jawfish, has a genuinely charming appearance — a pale green-to-peach body with faint orange stripes, a distinctive black cap on top of its head, and a black spot on the dorsal fin.
Native to the Indo-Pacific, this species is genuinely rarely seen in the aquarium trade, adding to its appeal for dedicated jawfish keepers. Like all jawfish, it digs and maintains a burrow in the sand, backing into it tail-first for protection and poking just its head out to watch for food and passing threats — a genuinely fun, interactive personality that often seems to watch keepers right back.
A genuinely fascinating detail: males are mouthbrooders, incubating fertilised eggs in their mouth until they hatch. This species is genuinely hardy and has been known to spawn successfully in home aquariums with the right care.
