This bold coloration gives it a striking appearance that stands out in aquariums, making it one of the more collectible Hypancistrus species.
Reaching around 12–13 cm (4.5–5"), it is a manageable-sized pleco suitable for medium aquariums. While generally peaceful, it may become semi-territorial with its own kind, especially males competing for caves or territory.
An omnivore, it requires a varied diet of algae-based foods, sinking pellets, and occasional meaty items such as bloodworms or shrimp. The Angelicus Pleco thrives in warm, well-oxygenated aquariums with driftwood, caves, and moderate current, resembling its native Rio Tocantins habitat.
