🐟 Bristlenose Pleco (Ancistrus sp. L144)
Algae Control • Driftwood Rasper • Peaceful Community Pleco
📋 The Bristlenose Pleco (Ancistrus sp.) is one of the best algae-eating catfish for home aquariums. Unlike the much larger Common and Sailfin Plecos, Bristlenoses stay compact at around 10 – 15 cm, making them ideal for smaller and medium aquariums.
Males develop the iconic bristles on their snouts, while females usually have fewer or smaller bristles. They are peaceful community fish, safe with most tankmates, and they won’t outgrow the average aquarium.
Their diet includes algae, biofilm, vegetables, and sinking foods, and they are known to spawn readily in aquariums. Hardy, easy to care for, and widely available in color morphs (albino, yellow, longfin, starlight), the Bristlenose Pleco is a must-have algae cleaner.
