Polka Dot Pleco (Hypostomus sp., L020)

Spotted • Large Pleco • Omnivore

📋 The Polka Dot Pleco (Hypostomus sp., L020) is a large-bodied pleco named for its jet-black body covered in bright white polka dots. This high-contrast pattern makes it one of the most visually striking members of the genus.

Reaching 25–30 cm (10–12"), it requires a large aquarium with ample driftwood, caves, and rocky décor for shelter and grazing. Like many Hypostomus, it is an omnivore, feeding on algae, vegetables, and supplemental sinking pellets, with occasional meaty foods.

The Polka Dot Pleco is generally peaceful with most tank mates, but can become territorial with other large plecos, especially when competing for hiding spaces. Its distinctive spotted pattern, size, and rarity make it a collector’s pleco highly valued in the aquarium trade.
