  • Lids: every dartfish is a notorious or determined jumper; a fully secure, gap-free lid is essential from day one

  • Shelter: none of these species can dig their own burrow; provide existing rock crevices, rubble, or a buried PVC pipe before they arrive

  • Pairing: most dartfish do best singly or as a confirmed mated pair; unpaired individuals of the same species will often fight

  • Acclimation: keep the shipping bag covered during acclimation, since several species can jump even from an open bag

  • Settling in: new arrivals commonly hide extensively at first; this is normal and most become bold, visible fish once settled
