📋 The Brichard's Synodontis comes from the turbulent rapids of the lower Congo River, where it lives in fast-flowing, highly oxygenated water beneath rapids and waterfalls. Its streamlined, tubular body, unlike most other Synodontis, is built for clinging to surfaces and holding its place against strong current, and its colours intensify as it ages. It's a distinctive, athletic catfish for keepers who enjoy a lively, high-flow setup.
Recreating that strong current and high oxygenation in the aquarium is the key to a happy Brichard's, so a powerhead and efficient filtration are a great fit. It's generally peaceful, though territorial toward its own kind and other Synodontis, and it may chase small fish resting on the substrate at night. It's best paired with medium-to-large, current-tolerant tankmates. Like all Synodontis it has stiff, lockable dorsal and pectoral spines for defence.
