🐟 Ocellated Synodontis (Synodontis ocellifer)

📋 The Ocellated Synodontis is a bold West African catfish recognised by the large black eye-spots, each with a pale centre, scattered along its sides. It comes from river systems between Senegal and Lake Chad, including the Gambia, Niger, and Volta basins, where it lives around wood piles and structure in streams and backwaters.
It's a nocturnal bottom dweller, resting out of sight by day and becoming active once the lights dim. Adults can reach about 49cm, and though most aquarium specimens stay smaller, it's a bulky fish that shines in a large aquarium. It's peaceful with fish too big to swallow and tends to become slightly territorial toward other Synodontis as it matures. Handle with care when netting, since the serrated pectoral spines tangle easily in net mesh.
