📋 The Flowerhorn Cichlid is one of the world's most recognisable ornamental fish, with intense colours, bold flower-like markings along the flanks, and the famous "kok," the rounded nuchal hump on the forehead that males develop as they mature. Across Thailand and Southeast Asia it is prized as a lucky fish, and it's as much a pet as a display piece: intelligent and interactive, it learns to recognise its keeper, follows your movements, and greets you at the glass.
Flowerhorns are a man-made hybrid, first bred in Malaysia in the 1990s from Central American cichlids, so there's no wild form. They're best enjoyed as a solo showpiece in a roomy tank, where they can patrol, display, and show off their full colour and kok. Plan on about 280L as a minimum for one adult, and 475L or more is even better, with powerful filtration, since adults reach about 25-40cm.
