📋 The Jewel Cichlid, also called the Blood-Red Jewel Cichlid or Lifalili Cichlid, is a small, fiery African cichlid with a deep ruby-red body sparkling with iridescent blue-green spots. It comes from the Congo River basin in Central Africa, and it stays compact at about 8-10cm, so it gives you big colour and a big personality in a modest tank.

Jewel Cichlids are famously devoted. They pair for life, and when a pair is ready to spawn their colours blaze even brighter, and they become wonderfully attentive parents, guarding their eggs and then their fry for about a month. They're best enjoyed as a pair in their own tank, or with similarly tough tankmates in a larger setup, and the easiest way to get a pair is to start with a group of young fish and let them choose each other.
