📋 The Green Tiger Barb, also sold as the Moss Green Tiger Barb, is a selectively bred colour morph of the Tiger Barb, developed on Asian fish farms from tiger barbs with naturally heavy dark pigment. The extra dark pigment overlays the body and reflects a metallic green-bronze sheen, while the four black bars are still there, just harder to see, and its fins keep the usual orange-red accents. It shows off best in a planted tank with a dark substrate.
Tiger barbs are hardy and lively, but they're semi-aggressive fin-nippers, and the green morph behaves just like the wild-type fish. The key to a happy tank is the right company: they suit active, short-finned tankmates and aren't a match for slow or long-finned fish such as angelfish, bettas, gouramis, and fancy guppies. Keep at least six, and eight to ten if you can, since a school keeps the barbs focused on each other.
