🐟 Ticto Barb (Pethia ticto)

📋 The Ticto Barb, also called the Two-Spot Barb, is a hardy, widely distributed barb from South Asia, including India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Myanmar, and Thailand. It has a silvery-gold body marked with two black spots, one near the gill and one near the tail base.
It's a subtropical species that tolerates cooler water than many tropicals, and it doesn't strictly need a heater in a warm climate. It's generally peaceful and undemanding, though like most barbs it can become nippy if kept in too small a group, so keep at least six, and eight or more is better for calm, confident behaviour. It may also occasionally nibble delicate, soft-leaved plants, so robust species are the safer choice.
The Ticto Barb is frequently confused with the closely related Odessa Barb (Pethia padamya) in the aquarium trade. The key difference is that mature male Odessa Barbs show a bright red stripe, which male Ticto Barbs lack. Care for both is very similar.
