Planted in a group, it grows into a dense, colourful bush that adds warmth and depth to the midground or background, and it makes a stunning contrast against green stem plants and carpets. It's a favourite in Dutch-style aquascapes, nature layouts and colourful community tanks.
It's easy to grow and responds beautifully to trimming: cut the tops, replant them, and the group fills out thicker and bushier every time. Give it good light and steady nutrients, with CO2 if you have it, and its red deepens to its most vivid.
It's a freshwater plant, suited to freshwater aquariums.
