Synodontis Catfish
For Freshwater Aquariums

Synodontis is a large genus of African catfish known for odd, memorable behaviour, from swimming upside-down to producing an audible squeak when handled.

At #Fisheee Aquarium Store Phuket Thailand, every listing explains exactly what makes each species distinctive, so you know what you're really bringing home.

As each fish is different, the actual fish you purchase & receive will be different from the images slightly in, size, shape, color, & markings

    #Our Synodontis Collection:

The Upside Down Catfish is the genus' most famous member, genuinely swimming belly-up as natural behaviour, while the larger, similar-looking False Upside-Down Catfish is commonly sold in its place, our listing explains the difference. The Cuckoo Catfish is one of the strangest fish in the hobby, the only known obligate brood parasite among fish, sneaking its eggs into a mouthbrooding cichlid's clutch; the Dwarf Cuckoo Catfish shows a milder version of the same trait. Several species, including the Clown, Angel, Orangestriped, and One-Spot Squeaker Catfish, can produce an audible squeak with their pectoral spines. For larger tanks, the Featherfin and Ocellated Synodontis bring real size and presence, while Brichard's Synodontis and Roberts Synodontis suit more specialised, current-loving or nano setups. #FishShopPhuketThailand

    #Care tips:

    - Know your species: the Upside Down Catfish and False Upside-Down Catfish are frequently confused or substituted in the trade; our listings clarify which is which
    - Nocturnal by nature: most Synodontis are most active at night and in low light, though a few species, like the One-Spot Squeaker, are more active by day
    - Squeaker behaviour: several species can produce an audible squeak with their pectoral spines, a natural defence response, not a sign of distress
    - Grows large: the Featherfin and Ocellated Synodontis can reach 30cm or more; plan tank size well beyond the small juvenile size sold
    - Breeding caution: the Cuckoo Catfish is a true brood parasite of mouthbrooding cichlids; keep it separate from any dedicated Tanganyikan cichlid breeding project
