Quick care pointers: Target temperature 26–28 °C, gentle flow, and stable water with pH 6.5–7.5 and soft to moderate hardness. Provide tall plants or wood for security, and a calm feeding routine with quality flakes, soft pellets, frozen mysis, daphnia, and occasional baby brine. Acclimate slowly (drip method recommended), dim lights for the first day, and maintain excellent biofiltration. For breeding projects, offer flat spawning surfaces; raise fry separately for best yields. Tank size from 120–180 L is a practical starting range for adult pairs; taller aquariums show them best. Keep groups of 5–6 juveniles to reduce pecking-order stress, then form pairs as they mature. Avoid persistent fin-nippers, large predatory fish, and overcrowding. Aim for weekly water changes of 25–35%, nitrate under 20 ppm, and a consistent photoperiod. Quarantine new arrivals when possible for the smoothest long-term results.
