📋 The Blue Sea Star is one of the most visually striking invertebrates in the marine hobby, instantly recognisable by its brilliant, uniform sapphire-blue colouration and graceful five-armed shape.
It comes from shallow reef flats and lagoons across the Indo-Pacific, from the Red Sea to Australia, a common sight on natural reefs, often found in water as shallow as 1 to 10 metres and sometimes even briefly exposed at low tide. Every Blue Sea Star we ship is feeding well.
This species carries a real, long-term feeding challenge: its exact dietary needs in captivity aren't fully understood, and the biofilm, detritus, and sponge material available even in a well-established tank often isn't enough to sustain it indefinitely. It's won't harm corals or fish, and is fully reef safe in that sense, but its real challenge is its own nutrition. We recommend it only for a large, mature reef system with extensive live rock, and target-feeding specific foods gives individual specimens a real chance at a longer life. It reaches up to 30cm arm span, so a 200L tank with extensive, established live rock suits it well.
