🦐 Sexy Shrimp (Thor amboinensis)

A Reddish-Brown Body Covered in Bright White Spots • A Constant, Rhythmic "Dancing" Motion • A Commensal Anemone Partner That Adapts Well Without One

📋 The Sexy Shrimp is one of the most charming and popular nano reef invertebrates, instantly recognisable by its tiny size, reddish-brown to caramel body covered in bright white spots, and a distinctive upward-curled tail held in an arched posture.

It comes from shallow coral reefs across the Indo-Pacific, from East Africa to the Central Pacific, and gets its common name from its constant, rhythmic swaying "dance", holding its abdomen upright and rocking it back and forth, a behaviour that's fun to watch and keeps this shrimp visibly active rather than hiding away. Every Sexy Shrimp we ship is feeding well.

In the wild, this species is almost always found living among the tentacles of a host anemone, in loose groups of 3 to 20 individuals sharing one host, a commensal relationship, meaning the shrimp benefits from shelter and food scraps while the anemone is neither helped nor harmed. A host anemone isn't strictly required in the aquarium, though, this species does just as well perched on a coral frag or piece of live rock, and keeping them away from anemones entirely is sometimes recommended if you're hoping to breed them. It reaches up to 2.5cm, so a 40L tank suits a small group well.
