📋 The Blue Spot Butterflyfish, also known as the Bluespot or Blueblotch Butterflyfish, is a striking marine fish with a bright yellow disc-shaped body, a distinctive sky-blue patch across the upper mid-section, and a black eye band edged in bluish-white for camouflage. Juveniles lack the blue patch, which develops as they mature.
It comes from shallow coral-rich lagoons and reef slopes across the Indo-Pacific, including the Great Barrier Reef and Fiji. In the wild it feeds almost entirely on live Acropora and Pocillopora coral polyps, making it a true coral specialist, and every Blue Spot Butterflyfish we ship is feeding well, confirmed eating before it leaves us.
It's not reef safe, since it will nip at soft and stony corals, tube anemones, and ornamental shrimp, making it suitable only for a fish-only aquarium with plenty of open swimming space. For experienced keepers ready for the feeding commitment, this is a beautiful, peaceful fish-only centrepiece. It reaches up to 15cm, so plan on at least 190L singly, and 415L or more for a mated pair.
