We want to be genuinely upfront on this one. The Copperband Butterflyfish is widely known as a genuinely difficult feeder in captivity — it's a shy, deliberate eater, and a significant number of specimens in the trade simply refuse food and waste away, even in experienced hands. This species is also popularly kept for its potential to eat pest Aiptasia anemones, but this ability is genuinely inconsistent and individual-dependent: some specimens methodically clear Aiptasia, others never touch it. Please never withhold food trying to "force" a Copperband to eat Aiptasia — this practice kills more Copperbands than it trains, and is not something we'd ever recommend. Before buying, please ask to see the specific specimen actively eating, and only introduce it to an already mature tank (six months or older) with an existing natural food source for it to graze on between feedings.
 
📋 The Copperband Butterflyfish (Chelmon rostratus), also known as the Beaked Butterflyfish, is a genuinely elegant fish with a silvery-white body crossed by bold copper-orange vertical bands, a long, slender snout adapted for probing crevices, and a false eyespot near the tail to confuse predators.
Native to coastal reefs and estuaries across the Indo-Pacific, this species uses its distinctive snout to hunt small invertebrates tucked into rock and coral crevices — the same trait that makes it so valued for Aiptasia control when it does take to it.
