📋 The Saddleback Butterflyfish, also known as the Saddled Butterflyfish or Saddle Butterflyfish, has a genuinely distinctive beige-to-white body marked by a large black "saddle" outlined in orange and white across the rear upper body and dorsal fin, with a yellow snout and orange accents outlining the black tail.
Native to a genuinely wide range across the Indo-Pacific, Hawaii, and the Coral Sea, this species inhabits coral-rich reefs, lagoons, and coastal habitats.
This is genuinely one of the larger and hardier butterflyfish species in the trade, reaching up to 23cm, and while it can revert to ignoring food or accepting only live foods for a period after arrival due to the stress of a new environment, it typically settles well once established. We want to be honest that this species is genuinely territorial toward its own kind and similarly patterned butterflyfish in smaller tanks, so it should only be kept with a genuine confirmed pair. We want to be upfront: this species is not reef safe, and will genuinely eat most stony corals, some soft corals, ornamental shrimp, tube worms, and anemones on live rock, though it's also genuinely documented helping to control nuisance Aiptasia anemones.
