📋 A note on identification: the Personifer Angelfish, also called the True Personifer, is endemic exclusively to the remote waters of Northwest Australia, and is described by rare-fish specialists as quasi-never imported into the trade, a different, far rarer fish than the commonly available False Personifer Angelfish (Chaetodontoplus meredithi) from East Australia, with which it's frequently confused. The clearest way to tell them apart is the tail: the True Personifer shows a black band through an otherwise yellow tail, while the False Personifer's tail is solid yellow throughout.
This species has a striking appearance: a solid black body, a blue face covered in numerous yellow spots, a yellow nape, breast, and pelvic fins, and a whitish-blue margin along the rear of the dorsal and anal fins. It inhabits soft-bottom and rubble reef areas at depths from 8 to 40 metres, typically alone or in pairs as adults. Every Personifer Angelfish we ship is feeding well.
It's a large-growing angelfish, and while generally peaceful, it can be hostile toward other angelfish species. It's not reef safe, and will nip at sponges, tunicates, soft corals, and clam mantles, making it strictly suited to a spacious fish-only or FOWLR aquarium, and recommended only for advanced, experienced keepers. It reaches up to 35cm, so plan on at least 570L.
