📋 The Rock Beauty Angelfish has a striking two-tone appearance: a bright yellow head, front body, and tail, contrasted against a bold black rear body, with sapphire-blue accents around the eyes. Juveniles look completely different, starting almost entirely yellow with a small black spot that gradually enlarges as they mature.
It comes from the tropical Western Atlantic, including the Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico, inhabiting coral-rich reefs and rocky outcrops, and it's the most common large angelfish across much of this range. Every Rock Beauty Angelfish we ship is feeding well, and it's a specialist sponge feeder, so we maintain it on a dedicated, ongoing supply of sponge-based angelfish foods offered multiple times daily, ideally alongside a sponge-rich refugium rotated into the display. We favour younger specimens collected from shallower water, which transition more readily than large adults.
It's not reef safe, and will nip at sponges, tunicates, zoanthids, stony and soft corals, and clam mantles. It's territorial toward other angelfish and should be the only angelfish in the tank, and very young specimens may also nip at the slime coats of tankmates. It reaches up to 20cm, so plan on at least 380L.
