🐟 Strawberry Peacock Cichlid (Aulonocara sp.)
Strawberry-Red Show Cichlid • Peaceful for a Malawi • Brilliant Centerpiece
📋 The Strawberry Peacock Cichlid is one of the most eye-catching African cichlids, with a bright red-to-pink "strawberry" colour that deepens as males mature, while females keep a softer tone. It's an aquarium-bred colour strain developed from Lake Malawi peacock lineages, selected for dramatic colour and the calmer temperament peacocks are known for.
Peacocks are among the friendliest of the Malawi cichlids, and they show their best colours in a spacious, rock-filled tank with hard, alkaline water and a darker substrate. They mix well with other peacocks, midwater Haplochromis, and easy-going Mbuna such as Yellow Labs, and a harem of one male to several females keeps the peace and the colour high.
