📋 The Combtail Betta arises from crossing a crowntail with another fin type, and shows a partial webbing reduction between the fin rays, less than the roughly 33% (males) or 25% (females) reduction required to qualify as a true crowntail. The result is a softer, gently spiked "comb" edge rather than the crowntail's fully separated spikes.
Because it shares crowntail ancestry, the Combtail can show a milder version of the fin-curling tendency that affects crowntails when water quality slips, generally to a lesser degree given its less extreme webbing reduction, so clean, stable water keeps its fins at their best.
As with all bettas, the Combtail is best kept solitary, since males are territorial and will fight rivals or similar-looking fish. Hardy and colourful, it's a good choice for aquarists wanting expressive finnage without the extreme structure of a full crowntail.
