📋 The Commerson’s Frogfish (Antennarius commerson) is the largest known frogfish species, capable of swallowing prey nearly equal to its body length thanks to an expandable stomach and jaw. Its surface is covered in wart-like textures and appendages that help it disappear among sponges and corals.
This patient ambush predator uses a lure (illicium) to attract prey within striking distance, snapping its jaws open in less than 1/6 of a second. Its ability to change color and mimic its environment makes it a master of disguise.
