📋 The Drape Fin Barb, also called the Hifin Barb, is a small, unusual barb known for the male's large, sail-like dorsal fin that drapes back over the body. Females have a smaller dorsal fin with a yellow-and-black pattern. It was only described in 2009, from tributaries of the Brahmaputra in West Bengal, eastern India, and it is still uncommon in the hobby.
It is peaceful and can be shy, so it does best in a planted tank with calm companions such as micro rasboras, small tetras and dwarf gouramis, and it is a poor fit for large or boisterous fish. Males are competitive with each other, so keep a group of at least six to eight with more females than males. Watching them spar and establish a pecking order is part of the appeal.
Care is not quite as forgiving as many barbs. The species can be sensitive to poor water quality and doesn't always travel well, and it does best in stable, neutral water of moderate hardness, with a soft sandy substrate and gentle flow.
