📋 Lamarck's Angelfish, also known as the Blackstriped or Swallowtail Angelfish, has an elegant silvery-grey body marked with fine horizontal black stripes running from head to tail. This species displays real sexual dimorphism: females show one noticeably bolder stripe extending along the caudal fin and a black dorsal fin, while males have more subdued stripes and a longer, more elegant tail.
It comes from reef slopes and steep drop-offs across the Indo-West Pacific, from the Indo-Malayan region to Vanuatu, southern Japan, and the Great Barrier Reef, feeding on plankton in midwater in natural harems of 3 to 7 individuals. Every Lamarck's Angelfish we ship is feeding well.
Unlike most angelfish, Genicanthus species are among the few truly reef-safe angelfish in the hobby, since their natural diet is predominantly zooplankton rather than corals, so it typically leaves corals, clam mantles, and most invertebrates entirely alone. It's also peaceful toward other angelfish species, though males can spar with one another, and it may chase smaller planktivorous fish like fairy wrasses, anthias, or Chromis that compete for the same food. It reaches up to 23cm, with females typically smaller, so plan on at least 285L for a single specimen.
