📋 The Xanthurus Cream Angelfish, also known as the Indian Yellowtail Angelfish, Cream Angelfish, or Smoke Angelfish, has a striking, understated appearance: a cream-to-pale-gold body etched with a delicate, dark lattice pattern across the scales, a black head, and black dorsal and anal fins edged in white, all set off by a vivid yellow tail. Colouration darkens progressively as the fish matures, from a lighter cream juvenile tone toward a deeper, smokier adult shade.
It comes from the Western Indian Ocean, from Mauritius through the Maldives, Sri Lanka, and the eastern coast of India, inhabiting coral-rich lagoon reefs and reef faces at depths from 5 to 30 metres. Every Xanthurus Cream Angelfish we ship is feeding well.
This is one of the more social and hardy species in the Apolemichthys genus, adapting readily to aquarium life and generally accepting a wide range of foods. It's not reef safe, and its natural diet of sponges, tunicates, and algae means it will nip at stony and soft corals and clam mantles. It's territorial toward other angelfish and should be the only angelfish in the tank, and can be shy at first, benefiting from plenty of hiding places during acclimation. It reaches up to 25cm, so plan on at least 470L.
