📋 The Asian Moth Catfish is a tiny, beautifully mottled bottom dweller from India and Bangladesh that looks like a piece of leaf litter or bark when it sits still. It's a reclusive, nocturnal little catfish that spends the day motionless on the substrate or wedged into crevices with its long pectoral spines, then comes out to hunt after dark, which makes it a fascinating addition to a nano or botanical tank.
This is a fish for attentive keepers. It can be slow to recognise offered food, and it's easily outcompeted by faster tankmates, even shrimp, so feeding live or frozen foods directly near the fish, at the same time and place each day, helps it settle in and learn the routine. Pair it with slow, gentle tankmates, add leaf litter and caves, and you'll be rewarded with a charming, hardy little catfish.
Several very similar small Hara and Erethistid species are sold under overlapping names such as "Moth Catfish," "Stone Catfish," and "Anchor Catfish," and species identification in the trade can be inconsistent. Care is very similar across the group either way.
