📋 The Yellowstriped Cardinalfish, also known as the Goldstriped or Orange-Lined Cardinalfish, has a metallic silvery-blue body marked with six bright orange-to-yellow horizontal stripes, complemented by large, prominent eyes suited to its nocturnal lifestyle.
It comes from a vast range across the Indo-Pacific, from the Persian Gulf and Red Sea to Mozambique, Fiji, and the Ryukyu Islands, inhabiting sheltered lagoon and seaward reefs, found in aggregations under ledges, in holes, or even among the long spines of sea urchins. A fascinating fact: this species is a real documented paternal mouthbrooder, with the male picking up and carrying fertilized eggs in his mouth until they hatch. This is a peaceful, hardy schooling species best kept in small groups introduced simultaneously, and it's active mainly at night, feeding on plankton and small invertebrates. It's considered reef safe with caution, this species won't harm corals, but may occasionally eat very small ornamental shrimp given its large mouth and appetite. It reaches up to 8cm, so a 115L tank suits it well.
