A Warm Brown Disc Covered in Orange Eyespots • The Classic Freshwater Ray • Hardy, Personable and Quick to Settle
📋 The Motoro Stingray, also known as the Ocellate River Stingray, carries a warm brown disc covered in bright orange-yellow eyespots, each ringed in black. It's the classic freshwater ray and the one that started the hobby's love affair with stingrays.
It comes from South America, where it ranges across the great river systems, including the Amazon, Orinoco and Paraná basins, gliding over sandy river bottoms. Every Motoro Stingray we ship is feeding well.
This is a true livebearer, giving birth to small, fully formed pups. It's the hardiest and most adaptable of the freshwater rays, a peaceful, personable bottom dweller that quickly learns its feeding routine and will often rise to the surface to greet its keeper at mealtimes. It spends its days gliding over open sand, so a wide footprint and a soft, fine sand bottom matter more than tank height. Like all freshwater rays, it carries a barb on the tail, so work with care during tank maintenance. It grows up to 45cm across the disc, plus the tail, so a 1,000L tank suits it well.
