📋 The Red Tail Golden Arowana (RTG) is genuinely native to northern Sumatra, Indonesia, distinguished by golden metallic body scales combined with a genuinely distinct red-tinted tail and fins — one proposed 2003 taxonomic study suggested reclassifying it as a separate species, Scleropages aureus, though this remains genuinely disputed among researchers, and it is treated as a color variety of S. formosus in most contexts.
Juveniles genuinely display greenish-gold tones that develop into fuller golden armor scales with maturity, particularly under proper lighting and diet. This is a genuinely large, long-lived apex predator, reaching up to 90cm, requiring a very large aquarium, a secure tight-fitting lid given this species' documented jumping behavior, and a genuine long-term commitment.
