    Our seven Tiger Barb forms, including the classic, Golden, Green, and Short Body varieties, bring bold stripes and constant action to tanks with active tankmates. For gentler tanks, choose the peaceful Cherry Barbs, Checker Barb, Odessa, Black Ruby, and Snake Skin Barb, or the delicate Drape Fin and African Banded Barbs. Rosy and Longfin Rosy Barbs love cooler water, and so do the Ticto and Golden Barbs.     Care tips:

    • Groups: keep at least six of any barb, and eight to ten for Tiger Barbs, since a proper school keeps them confident and calm

    • Tankmates: Tiger Barbs suit active, short-finned fish; peaceful barbs such as Cherry, Checker, and Snake Skin suit gentler communities

    • Tank size: from about 40L for nano barbs to 500L or more for a school of Tinfoil Barbs

    • Water: most barbs do well at 22-28°C; Rosy, Ticto, Golden, and Denison Barbs prefer cooler water

    • Setup: open swimming space, a tight lid for jumpers such as Denison and Tinfoil Barbs, and robust plants, since several species nibble soft ones
