🐠 Bicolor Chromis (Chromis dimidiata)

Marine Reef-Safe Schooling Fish • Half-and-Half Colour Pattern • Peaceful Mid-Water Swimmer • Beginner-Friendly Marine Fish

📋 The Bicolor Chromis (Chromis dimidiata), also known as the Half-and-Half Chromis, is a small, hardy schooling fish with a distinctive split colouration — a pale blue front half meeting a darker blue-to-black rear half.

Native to coral reefs and lagoons across the Indo-Pacific, from the Red Sea and East Africa to the central Pacific, this species is typically found in loose schools hovering above branching coral in shallow water 1–15 metres deep.

Naturally peaceful and hardy, Bicolor Chromis are a popular beginner reef fish thanks to their easy care and genuine reef safety. One honest note worth knowing: like most Chromis species, the tight, synchronized schooling seen on wild reefs doesn't always carry over perfectly to aquarium life — in the more confined space of a tank, a dominance hierarchy often develops within the group rather than the fish schooling as one continuous unit. This is normal and doesn't mean anything is wrong; a group of 5 or more still adds much more natural, confident behaviour than a lone fish.

With a proper-sized group and stable water conditions, it thrives as a Peaceful Split-Colour Schooling Reef Display Fish.
