📋 The Black Tang , also known as the Black Longnose Tang or Black Sailfin Tang, has a genuinely striking velvety jet-black body with an elongated, sailfin-like snout, and a small diamond-shaped white marking near the anal fin.
Native to a genuinely narrow stretch of the Central Pacific, historically centred on Hawaii and Christmas Island, this species is genuinely one of the rarest and most expensive tangs in the entire aquarium hobby — real market prices commonly range from several hundred to well over a thousand dollars depending on size. Since Hawaii's aquarium fishery closed in 2020, current supply genuinely comes almost exclusively from Christmas Island, making it a real rarity that only reaches the trade in small numbers.
Despite its price and rarity, this species is genuinely regarded as one of the hardier, more peaceful members of the Zebrasoma genus, similar in care to the more familiar Yellow and Sailfin Tangs. It's fully reef safe and a genuinely excellent algae grazer, particularly effective against nuisance filamentous algae.
We want to be honest: it should genuinely be the only tang in the tank, and is best introduced last, after all other tank mates are already settled.
