🐠 Black Spot Tang (Acanthurus bariene)

Marine Reef-Safe Large Grazing Tang • Olive-Brown Body With Black Spot & Orange Accents • Genuine Deep-Water Rarity • Advanced Marine Fish

📋 The Black Spot Tang , also known as the Bariene Surgeonfish, Eye-Spot Tang, or Roundspot Tang, has a genuinely handsome olive-brown body with irregular grey-blue lines, a distinctive round black spot at the upper gill opening, an orange-rimmed eye, and yellow-orange dorsal and anal fins. Its colours are genuinely more subdued as a juvenile, developing into its full, striking pattern only with maturity.

Native to a genuinely wide range across the Indo-West Pacific, from Mozambique and the Maldives to the Solomon Islands, north to the Ryukyu Islands, and south to the Great Barrier Reef, this species genuinely inhabits deep coastal reef slopes and outer reef walls, typically below 15 metres and often deeper than 30 metres. This genuine deep-water habitat makes it a real rarity in the aquarium trade, rarely offered compared to more common tangs.

Despite its large adult size, it's genuinely regarded as one of the mellower Acanthurus species, and is otherwise peaceful with tank mates. It's fully reef safe, though we want to be honest that it should be the only tang in most home aquarium setups, as it can genuinely become territorial toward other similarly shaped tangs as it matures.
