🐠 Purple Tang (Zebrasoma xanthurum)

Marine Reef-Safe Tang • Deep Purple Body With Yellow Tail • Genuine Ich Sensitivity • Intermediate to Advanced Marine Fish

📋 The Purple Tang (Zebrasoma xanthurum), also known as the Yellowtail Tang, has a genuinely striking deep purple-blue body with faint darker striping and a bright yellow tail, with yellow-tipped pectoral fins on many specimens.

Native primarily to the Red Sea, with populations also found in the Gulf of Aden, the Persian Gulf, and the Arabian Sea, this species is highly sought after and genuinely one of the more popular tangs in the hobby.

This is a genuinely valuable algae grazer and a hardy species for a reef tank, generally leaving corals and invertebrates alone. We want to be upfront about two things: like all tangs, it's genuinely prone to marine ich and lateral line disease, so quarantine, excellent water quality, and a diet rich in algae are all genuinely important for long-term health. It's also uniquely the most aggressive species in the otherwise peaceful Zebrasoma genus, and should be introduced last to a tank, with no other Zebrasoma tangs present unless the system is genuinely very large.
