📋 The Vlamingii Tang, also known as the Vlaming's Unicornfish or Bignose Unicornfish, has a genuinely brown-to-purple adult body with vertical markings and brilliant blue highlights on the fins, tail, and face, developing a genuine bulbous forehead protrusion rather than the pointed horn seen in some other Naso species.
Native to the Indo-Pacific, including the Great Barrier Reef, Indonesia, and the Philippines, this species inhabits reef environments and is genuinely one of the longer-lived tangs in the hobby, with a documented lifespan of up to 45 years.
We want to share a genuinely fascinating fact: this species is capable of quickly and dramatically changing its colour from pale to brilliant to dark, depending on its mood or environment — mature fish often appear very dark blue-black while swimming, but genuinely shift to a pale baby-blue with visible bars and spots when approaching a cleaning station. This is a genuinely peaceful, hardy species toward other fish, though it can become aggressive toward other tangs, particularly in smaller tanks. It's fully reef safe, and won't harm sessile invertebrates.
