🐠 Black Shoulder Tang (Acanthurus nigricauda)

Marine Reef-Safe Large Grazing Tang • Grey-Brown Body With Black Shoulder Streak • Genuine Rapid Colour-Shifting Communication • Advanced Marine Fish

📋 The Black Shoulder Tang , also known as the Epaulette Surgeonfish or Eye-Stripe Tang, has a genuinely handsome grey-to-brown body with a distinctive black "epaulette" streak behind the eye, orange-based pectoral fins, and a white-based tail with a dark, blue-edged outer band.

Native to a genuinely wide range across the Indo-Pacific, from East Africa and Madagascar to the Tuamotu Islands, north to southern Japan, and south to Australia and New Caledonia, this species is genuinely uncommon in the aquarium trade and reaches a substantial adult size.

A genuinely fascinating natural behaviour: this species can rapidly shift its body colour from light to dark, used as communication during courtship, aggression, or to signal it's ready to be cleaned by other fish. Despite its large size, it's genuinely regarded as one of the calmer, more peaceful surgeonfish species, and juveniles are naturally found schooling together in the wild.

It's fully reef safe, though we want to be honest that a genuinely large tank is essential given its substantial adult size, and it should be the only tang in most home aquarium setups, as it can genuinely be aggressive toward other similarly shaped tangs.
