📋 The Blue Ribbon Eel , also known as the Ribbon Moray, is genuinely the same species as our Black Ribbon Eel listing, shown here at its vivid blue male life stage. This species undergoes a genuinely remarkable, dramatic colour transformation across its life — juveniles are solid black, transforming into vivid blue males with a yellow dorsal fin, and eventually into yellow-to-greenish females, as this species is a genuine sequential hermaphrodite that changes sex from male to female.
Native to a genuinely wide range across the Indo-Pacific, from East Africa to French Polynesia, this species inhabits lagoons, reef flats, and seagrass beds, where it burrows into sand or rubble with only its distinctive, flared nostrils and head visible.
